Last Minute DIY Halloween Costumes

So, you’ve put off buying your Halloween costume until the last minute and now all the costume shops are out of the good outfits. Maybe you’re sick of spending tons of money on a costume you’ll only wear once. No matter what your reason is, we understand, and have compiled some DIY Halloween costume ideas that can be worn throughout the year, not just for Halloween.

1.   Unicorn

This magical costume doesn’t require a rainbow. All you have to do is accessorize a white outfit and get creative with make-up. Our go-to place for anything sparkly and white is Forever 21—October 31st can be chilly depending on what the weather wants to do, so you might want to opt for pants instead of shorts or a skirt, but it’s really up to you. For cheaper makeup, try your hand at Claire’s (this might be a great place to find a unicorn horn as well), or find some nice color palettes at The Cosmetics Company Store.

2.   Elle Woods

With Legally Blonde 3 recently getting a release date, why not scrounge up a costume to mimic our favorite lady lawyer? If you’re not blonde, you might need a wig; but otherwise you have free reign! Any bright-pink dress will do the trick, but we like this the Brooks Dress from Guess Factory. Throw on a pair of sunnies from Sunglass Hut and you’ll be asking everyone, “What? Like it’s hard?”

3.   Men In Black

Here’s an easy last-minute costume for couples, or best friends. You just need to put on your best black suit and tie from a store like Brooks Brothers Factory Store, and of course, a pair of black sunglasses from Sunglass Hut to recreate an iconic Men In Black look.

4.   Sandy from Grease

“Grease” is the word! Steal the show at any Halloween party by slipping on a stunning post-makeover Sandy costume! If you’ve got money to burn, we recommend the Leather Biker Trousers from Alexander McQueen, but if you have a budget, then a pair of black, faux-leather leggings from Forever 21 will do the trick. As for the top, it might be hard to find a black, off-the-shoulder crop top during the colder months, so make sure to browse the discount sections at most stores in Woodbury Common Premium Outlet, or buy a white crop top like this from Forever21 and try your hands at dying it!

5.   Miss Frizzle

If you’re going to dress up as a teacher for Halloween, why not dress up as Miss Frizzle from The Magic School Bus? It’s a costume that’s as easily recognizable as it is to make. For a higher-end look that can go from a party to the office, stop in at Gucci and purchase the tulip print cotton linen dress which would pair perfectly with natural (or fake) frizzy ginger hair. For a more DIY look, purchase a blue dress from Old Navy like this or this and pair it with a white collared shirt like this from Old Navy, or this crop shirt from Forever 21—remember, it can be cropped because it will be under the dress.
