You may not have known this, but there are different types of outlet stores! Not all of them are equal and discounts will vary between stores. The main types are outlet, factory, retail, and refurbished. Now, you may be wondering, “okay, so what does this mean?”. Don’t worry, that’s what we are here to help with!
True Outlet Stores
These stores will have merchandise that is originally stocked in regular stores that have been either discontinued or phased out. Some of these stores are Levi’s, The Children’s Place, and Lululemon.
Factory Stores
Factory stores have items that were made specifically for outlet malls. This includes Polo Ralph Lauren, Nike, GUESS, and Banana Republic.
Retail Stores
Stores like these are hoping to get more foot traffic, which is why they’re in outlet malls. However, these stores will have you paying retail prices without knowing. So watch out! Some of these stores include Sunglasses Hut, Aeropostale, and American Eagle.
Refurbished Stores
Mostly, these will be electronics stores. These items have been fixed up and are often classified as “like new”. While Woodbury Commons doesn’t have any of these, some names to watch out for are Bose, Nikon, and Toshiba!

If you’re planning a trip to an outlet mall, we highly recommend sorting through your ‘junk mail’. Yes, that includes your emails as well! Many stores have discounts and coupons that they send out via email or mail.
You may also want to look on the companies website (especially if you’re waiting for a deal) to see if they have an online newsletter. This newsletter often offer discount codes as well! You can also check the outlet mall’s website itself to see what deals and discounts are happening. Some malls even keep coupons at their customer service office!
Don’t Let the Sales Sail Away
Just because you’re at an outlet store, where items are already marked down, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t hunt for good sales! Weekends are often when sales happen and outlets are no exception. Planning to go on a weekend would be the best to hit that sweet spot!
